Avid EDL Formatting Instructions | Protools EDL Export Requirements
Different versions of Protools have slightly different configurations which may cause slight deviation from these instructions but this outlines requirements for the EDL Crusher.
1. From a PT session pull-down Menu, pull down "File > Export > Session Info as Text..." An "Export Session Text" dialog box appears. Example
2. Select "Include Track EDLs". Example
3. Don't Select "Show Subframes" or "Include User Timestamps".
4. Under Fade Handling select "Combine Crossfaded Regions".
5. Make Time Format: Time code, Format as "Text".
6. File Format: TextEdit "TEXT" to export in .txt file (or editor can export in .xls which can be converted to text).
7. If the exported EDL has the 'State' column that includes 'Muted' and 'Unmuted' listings then remove the muted cues from the EDL then Delete that column.
8. All EDLs need to be in either .txt or .edl format for conversion. The Protools session needs to be in a Frame Rate of either 29.97FPS or 23.92FPS.
9. Also, you may decide to exclude any SFX and Music Hits by cutting those tracks from the EDL fix this that includes cymbal swells and drum hits.
Now that you have a properly formatted EDL you're ready to convert the EDL into a useable .xls document. Go back to Instructions.
